DELAYING AND IGNORING TRENDS IN MARRIAGES: A CRITICAL STUDY IN HADITH CONTEXT

Marriage is a preamble of human life. The human society builds its facade on the characteristics of this unit. Humanity has been granted with divine rules for a successful life. The latest version of divine rules are conveyed through Islam and presented by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWﷺ). Qur’ān declares marriage as ‘God given relationship’, ‘order from God’, ‘A lawful manner’, ‘Firm covenant’, ‘Love and compassion’, ‘Chastity of life’, ‘Right of women and Sign of safety’ and along with it, the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad (SAWﷺ) emphasizes marriage as depicting it a ‘Half of religion’, ‘Protection of eyes’, ‘Prevention of character from corruption’, ‘source of Devil’s desperation’ etc. Owing to this stress of in-time marriages, a Muslim society is not supposed to delay or ignore in time marriages. But in present era, the trend of delaying

QURANIC AND LEGISLATIVE FAÇADE OF VEIL IN PAKISTAN: A SOCIO-RELIGIOUS RESEARCH SURVEY WITH THE RECIPIENTS OF SITARA-I-IMTIAZ OF PAKISTAN 2010

Qurān conveys body veil in Surah Al-Noor1 and Surah Al-Ahzaab2, full body covering dress for both sexes, for enduring betterment of a society. Pakistan declared itself an Islamic3 Republic, so ultimately; it is implicit that Quranic injunctions are being observed in its constitution directly and specifically as per the verdicts of Qurānic proselytization. A Socio-Religious Research Survey (SRRS) 4 was designed and conducted with dignitaries of Pakistani society (recipients of Sitara-i-Imtiaz 2010) by the research team of Bismilah Welfare Organization ® (BWO) 5 with the Ministry of Social Welfare and Women Development, Government of Punjab, Lahore under the supervision of author. It was asked the Pakistani Recipients of Sitara-i-Imtiaz (PRSI) that is Qurān conveys preaching regarding veiling (in-house, in family and outside house) system. It was questioned that what sort of behavioral, social, ethical and personal issues can be seen due to non-veiling or semi naked6 atmosphere. Lastly, it was asked that at what extend, the constitution and

QURANIC NOTION OF HIJAAB AND CONSTITUTION OF ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF PAKISTAN

Hijaab1 , practice of modest dressing by women as prescribed in Quran, is not only prescribed for Muslims. This practice is also found among the adherents of other revealed religions and is practiced in ethically civilized societies till now. Islam, being the best well wisher of humanity, presents obvious rulings regarding indoor and outdoor dress code in Surah Al-Noor and Surah Al-Ahzaab to be adopted by the citizens of a civilized/Muslim societies. Pakistan, being an Islamic Republic, presents no specific rulings or provision regarding Hijaab neither in its Constitution nor in its legal codes. It is observed that the constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan propagates Islam in general tone but does not communicate specifically what Qur’an conveys in the form of express injunctions to be adopted by Muslim community as far as dress code is concerned. Furthermore, Pakistan’s Penal Code also does not provide any penalties for improper dress code. Constitution of Pakistan and Legal codes of Pakistan do not admonish or lay down penalties for gazing or staring for both men and women, and exhibiting of ornaments and finery by the women at public places.
